Pianist Josep Colom. | Paz Fernández
Josep Colom is a veteran Spanish classical pianist.
Born in Barcelona in 1947, his first lessons were from an aunt before he moved to Paris to study and went on to win the first ever Santander National Piano Competition in 1972. Six years later, this was an international competition; he scooped the prize at that as well.
Other awards have included Spain’s ministry of culture prize for his first recording - the complete sonatas of Manuel Blasco de Nebra in 1982 - and the ministry’s national prize for music in 1998. A composer in his own right, he will be performing some of these at a concert for the Deya festival at one of the venues away from Son Marroig. The programme will also include Mozart, Bach and Chopin.
