Bopping collectively along in Sa Pobla

Saxophonist and composer Irene Reig is one of the most outstanding representatives of the new generation of Catalan jazz musicians.

At the age of 15 she joined the Sant Andreu Jazz Band for youth musicians in Barcelona and later studied in Amsterdam.

Her first album as a leader was ‘Views’ in 2017. The band was a quintet, and she still has a quintet but also a trio and the nine-piece Bop Collective. It is this collective who are playing at this year’s Sa Pobla festival.

Their first album release was in 2018, the year when they won the public prize at the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition. Their latest album, ‘Decisió i Coratge’, came out in November 2023, a mix of jazz tradition and the contemporary.
