Christmas performance by the group Cap Pela. | Miquel A. Cañellas
Cap Pela are an exceptional vocal group. Highly regarded in Mallorca and in Spain, this seven-member a cappella group have been in existence since 1994.
They have a wide repertoire that has seen them take part in folk music festivals, perform the blues and jazz, and sing at the Torrent de Pareis concert in Sa Calobra in July.
Christmas concerts have become something of a tradition for them, the concerts having been performed under the title of ‘Encén els llums’ (Turn on the Lights) and including their version The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ - bound to be this year’s most popular Christmas song because of the death of Shane MacGowan.
The Balearic Symphony Orchestra performs its own Christmas concerts, but this year is teaming up with Cap Pela for what is described as a concert of “Christmas melodies”.
