Miquel Ángel Aguiló playing his cello. | Pere Bota
Miquel Àngel Aguiló is a cellist and composer whose collaborations have included orchestral arrangements for the top-rated Mallorcan indie band Antónia Font.
These were on a 2007 album, which pianist Magí Garcías recalls not having liked at the time. He was fifteen and to him it didn’t fit with his notion of symphonic music. Since then, he has revised his view and now understands that this was Aguiló doing the unexpected. “It was the sign of a very creative person.”
Garcías has been working for some time with Aguiló on a project that goes under the title of Vol_Art4. As the title suggests, it is the fourth installment in a series that has embraced spirituality and mysticism as well as music. There is a social commitment, and the latest project deals with this through a focus on war. The concert, which also features soprano Lorena Bonnin, the Ensemble Lumière, and light show, is a premiere for a project which includes ‘Concert per la pau’ (Concert for Peace) and so a clear association with the war in Ukraine.
