Vasko Vassilev is no stranger to Mallorca.
The Bulgarian violinist, now a naturalised British citizen, has previously performed on the island this summer and done so on the back of having led the Coronation Orchestra for the Coronation service for King Charles and The Queen Consort. He has previously been accompanied by Miquel Estelrich. Pianist with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, his numerous recordings have specialised in Mallorcan composers such as Miquel Capllonch and Baltasar Samper. For the Santanyi International Music Festival, they will be joined by one of the greatest of current-day mezzosopranos, Maria José Montiel, who has sung at all the major opera houses, such as La Scala, and was awarded Spain’s National Music Prize in 2015.
The trio’s programme will include a work by the Mallorcan composer of zarzuelas, Antoni Lliteres. This year is the 350th anniversary of his birth.
