Italian flautist Massimo Mercelli. | Archives
Massimo Mercelli is one of the world’s greatest flautists.
His recordings cover a whole spectrum of musical eras - the baroque (Bach, Handel), the classical (Haydn) and the contemporary (Philip Glass). He has collaborated with the likes of Glass, Michael Nyman and Ennio Morricone and has performed at the world’s major concert halls, e.g. the Carnegie.
For the final concert of this year’s Deya International Music Festival, he teams up with the festival’s director, pianist Alfredo Oyágüez, for a concert that itself will cross eras - Mozart (classical), Schubert (early romantic) and Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine composer who revolutionised traditional tango in the 1950s.
The concert is at one of the festival’s other venues - the Sa Bassa Rotja ecotourism hotel in Porreres. There is a dinner option (for 25 euros) as well as the concert.
