From Rostropovich to jazz quartet projects

Victor de Diego from Bilbao is a classically trained saxophonist whose career since 1984 has combined both classical music and jazz.

This career started with jazz outfits, but such was his virtuosity that he played with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and later with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under Mstislav Rostropovich.

Since the late 1980s, he has been a regular at leading jazz festivals and has been a member of the Barcelona Jazz Orchestra in playing with top international musicians such as American jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis.

Among his various projects are three different groups, one of them, the De Diego Brothers, with brother Juan on trumpet. Another, which is coming to Palma, is the Victor de Diego Group, with Roger Mas on piano, Martin Leiton on bass and Marc Miralta on drums.
