Those of you of a certain vintage will surely remember ‘Light Flight’, although the chances are that you may not have known the song’s title, as it was so intimately associated with the TV series ‘Take Three Girls’.
The theme tune for the series, it was a huge and surprise hit for the jazz-influenced folk band Pentangle. Jacqui McShee was the singer with a band whose members included legendary guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn. After all the years, Pentangle are still going, while Jacqui has, among other things, also been a session singer. In 2020, she released an album entitled From There to Here, a collaboration with guitarist Kevin Dempsey.
From the same era as Pentangle, he was a member of Dando Shaft, a fine but largely forgotten progressive folk band. They are in Palma for the latest of the ongoing Women don’t Wait for Waits series of concerts, which typically highlight British female folk singers.
