Gala night at the historic Jesuits cloister

The Jesuits of Mallorca have been in the news recently because their remaining representatives in Palma are having to leave the Monti-Sion College on account of their age.

The Monti-Sion site is one of great heritage value and it is the venue for a grand gala night of opera that will boast 120 musicians on stage. Well, probably not a stage as such, as the Monti-Sion Cloister concerts are part in the round on the cloister courtyard - orchestra with audience to both sides and choir behind the orchestra.

Sopranos Paula Riera and Mar Vives and tenor Ilich Bermúdez will be accompanied by the Orfeó Balear choir and the Balearic Chamber Orchestra (conductor Daniel Mulet) for a programme that will include works from the likes of La Traviata, The Barber of Seville and La Bohème in what is a very special setting.
