Lisa Larsson returning for a Mallorcan premiere

From Sweden, Lisa Larsson studied in Basel before moving on to become of the world’s leading sopranos.

She has appeared at La Scala, at Glyndebourne and at the Proms and has also previously performed with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, most recently in September 2021 at concert for the Santanyi International Music Festival which featured works by Haydn and by the Palma-born pianist and composer Baltasar Samper, whose music became largely forgotten after the Civil War but was subsequently revived.

Returning to Palma in March, a theme of showcasing Mallorcan composers will be continued with the premiere of ‘Revelacions’ by Mercè Pons. In addition, for what will be a concert dedicated to female composers, there will be ‘Homage to Clara’ (Clara Schumann) and Symphony No. 1 by Florence Price. Composed between 1931 and 1932, this was notable for having been the first work for major orchestras composed by an African-American woman.
