Geometrical Sardine got together in the summer of 2021. | Facebook
Since emerging last year, Geometrical Sardine have attracted a great deal of attention and received great critical acclaim.
A contemporary jazz trio, the interest in the group lay partly in the fact that it was a project involving Joan Roca, bassist with the leading Mallorca indie-rock band Antònia Font. The two other musicians are also well known in Mallorca - drummer Pep Aspas and guitarist Jaume Rosselló of folk-rock group BOC.
The group came about as all three were studying classical and jazz music at the conservatory in Palma. They initially got together in the summer of 2021 and then recorded their debut album, ‘Minialien’, that was released last year.
Theirs is a music which pushes the stylistic limits of jazz and opens up new horizons, and they back this up with an energetic and powerful live performance. And as to the name? That is actually something of a mystery.
