The band Great Straits, a tribute to the legendary Dire Straits, during one of their performances. | R.C.

Guitarist and singer Oscar Rosende says that he is not the “Galician Mark Knopfler” - it was a tag given to him by a friend who works on the radio in Galicia - but over the past fifteen years and more he has pretty much deserved this accolade.

With his second Dire Straits band, Great Straits, he and the other musicians as well as technicians have perfected a sound and a performance that comes very close to the original. He prefers to call it a homage rather than a tribute.

The show, the Great Songs of Dire Straits, will cover all the band’s classic hits, including the one that really started it all - ‘Sultans of Swing’. Praise comes from one-time Dire Straits keyboardist Guy Fletcher, who has said of one of the version of ‘Why Aye Man’ - “I thought it was our recording”.
