Enrique Bagaría to perform in Mallorca. | Youtube: Leonel Morales & Friends
Born in Barcelona in 1978, Enrique Bagariá began his piano studies at the age of six.
He studied at the conservatory in Barcelona and completed his postgraduate studies in Paris before moving on to the Queen Sofia School of Music in Madrid and to the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich.
He really gained global recognition when he took part in the 2005 Paloma O’Shea International Competition in Santander and then won first prize in 2006 at the highly prestigious Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona.
One reviewer has referred to the “seriousness of a great musician demonstrating that he is a pianist of magnitude ... one of the most outstanding of the young generation”.
His recordings have included an album of three Bach sonatas with bassoonist Stefano Canuti, and it is Bach who provides the opening work for his performance in Pollensa. This will be ‘Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ’, a church cantata written for strings, oboes and bassoon but for which there is a piano arrangement. As this is the Tchaikovsky Festival, the Russian composer also features - ‘The Seasons’.
