The Ramon Llull Choir at the parrish church of Sant Pau. | PERE BOTA
Orfeó Ramon Llull, the Ramon Llull Choir, was founded in 2010 by singers from various choirs in Mallorca who had shared experiences in performances of Handel's 'Messiah' and of two premieres - John Rutter's 'Requiem' in Mallorca and the world premiere of Karl Jenkins' 'Gloria' in London.
The choir took its name from Ramon Llull in tribute to a universal Mallorca - scientist, poet and philosopher.
Over the years, the choir has taken on challenging pieces such as Rutter's 'Magnificat' and the premiere of 'Canticum Novum' by Mallorcan composer Baltasar Bibiloni, who has always had a close association with the choir.
'Messiah' is perhaps the work which most closely defines the choir, and it will be joined by the Ars Antiqua orchestra and choir for a Christmas performance of Handel's masterwork in Palma. There is a second performance in Manacor on Saturday.
