Requiem with boy soprano

Dan Forrest is a contemporary US composer who is best known for 2013 ‘Requiem for the Living’.

Combining sections from the Requiem and texts from Ecclesiastes and the Book of Job, it was scored for a boy soprano, soprano, choir and orchestra.

As her name suggests, soprano Vanessa Goikoetxea is Basque, although she was born in Florida. She is the invited soloist for the Balearic Symphony Orchestra’s latest Teatre Principal concert, which will include Forrest’s work. The boy soprano is nine-year-old Adrià Sánchez, whose previous performances include this Chrismas’s Sibil·la with the Capella Mallorquina choir, who will also feature.

Mahler’s ‘Songs of a Wayfarer’ and the overture to Carl Maria von Weber’s ‘The Marksman’ complete the programme.
