The Pollensa Music Festival held a new concert of the current season in the Claustre de Sant Domingo. The event was given by Balearic Symphony Orchestra and conducted in this case by Joshua Weilerstein and with Edgar Moreauc as soloist on the cello. | MICER
Joshua Weilerstein is an American conductor and violinist who was born into a musical family in Rochester, New York in 1987.
With studies at the New England Conservatory, he took first prize at the 2009 Malko competition for young conductors in Copenhagen. He is now chief conductor with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and will take up the post of music director at the Orchestre National de Lille in September.
Described by Italy’s Corriere Della Sera as “a revelation on the podium”, his recordings include Rachmaninoff’s ‘Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, Op. 43’ with the London Philharmonic. And the Russian composer’s Op. 45, ‘Symphonic Dances’ is one of his two works for which he will be conducting the Balearic Symphony Orchestra. The other is Mozart’s Symphony No. 36.
