The Mar i Vent havaneres group was formed in Barcelona in 1995.
A six-piece, their first CD album included the song Luna Llena, which went on to win second prize at a festival in Valladolid. Over the years, the line-up has changed. The only original member is the bass singer Toni Belmonte, and they are now a four-piece, the musical direction being in the hands of Denis Serrano, who studied accordion at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona.
Mar i Vent will be performing on both nights of the Havaneres Festival in Puerto Soller. There are other groups plus folk dancers for this celebration of a Cuban musical (and dance) genre from the early nineteenth century that found its way into Catalan musical culture in the 1950s.
Highly popular, there is a special train and tram service on both nights from Palma. The Soller Train will leave at 6.30pm. The return journey is by coach at midnight.
