In July 1965, The Beatles played two dates in Spain. These were at the bullrings in Madrid and Barcelona, respectively Las Ventas and Monumental.
The Franco regime may have preferred British pop acts of the day not to have been influencing Spanish youth, but it couldn’t deny their huge international popularity - The Beatles especially. So they contributed to changing attitudes, whilst also inspiring musicians in Mallorca and Spain.
That inspiration has continued, and a production celebrating the 60th anniversary of the concerts brings together national and local groups and acts. One of these is Mallorca’s Sexy Sadie, whose success dates back to the early 90s. The origin of their name is obvious to any Beatles’ fan.
