Alba Ventura made her debut as a classical piano soloist at the age of thirteen, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner at Madrid’s National Auditorium.
From Barcelona, she went on to study under the great Vladimir Ashkenazy. Now 44, she is acknowledged as one of Spain’s premier pianists and is the invited soloist for a Balearic Symphony Orchestra concert that will feature Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26, for which Ashkenazy once conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra; the recording won a Grammy.
Also on the programme will be Stravinsky’s Petrushka, his ballet that was written in 1911; Nijinsky took the role of Petrushka. There are two orchestral versions for this, both by Stravinsky - the original for the ballet in 1911 and a later one in 1947.
