PALMA. MUSICA. Marco Mezquida Trio, PIANISTA. | R.C.
Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring was originally an American ballet that premiered in 1944 and won Copland the Pulitzer Prize for Music the following year.
Written for a 13-piece chamber orchestra, it underwent various iterations in becoming a work for a full orchestra; the first recording was in 1954. Said to be the greatest piece of classical music composed by an American, Copland had conceived it as ordinary music with wide appeal to the general public.
Minorcan pianist Marco Mezquida will again be demonstrating his versatility when he teams up with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra for a concert that will showcase Appalachian Spring and a work by Mezquida. Entitled Talaiot, it is obviously inspired by the Talaiot culture of Minorca and Mallorca that existed before the Romans arrived.
