American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega. | Laurent Besson - Facebook
‘Marlene on the Wall’, the harrowing ‘Luka’, the remix of ‘Tom’s Diner’; three songs which gave American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega international recognition.
Having written her first song when she was 14, her career as a folk-rock artist took off big time in 1985, with her debut album reaching platinum status in the US. The ‘Tom’s Diner’ remix in 1990, it’s fair to say, is what she is best known for.
A major artist, there’s no doubting that, hers is a standout concert for this year’s Sons de Nit (Sounds of the Night) series. She will be accompanied by Irish guitarist Gerry Leonard, who worked with David Bowie and has also worked with Rufus Wainwright, whose Sons de Nit concert is two days before Suzanne Vega’s.
