Spanish flamenco singer @IsraelFernandezCantaor shares an extraordinary performance of his new single ‘Fiesta (Bulería)’. | Youtube: COLORS
Israel Fernández was born into an Andalusian gypsy family in Corral de Almaguer, Toledo in 1989.
A flamenco singer, and one of Spain’s finest, his first album, ‘Naranjas Sobre La Nieve’ (Oranges on the Snow) was released in 2008. It was his fourth album, ‘Amor’ (Love), which really began to seal his reputation. It reached number seven on the official sales charts, was nominated for a Latin Grammy as best flamenco album (2021) and won the Odeón Award for best flamenco album in that year; the Odeón Awards are given each year by the AGEDI, Spain’s association for the management of intellectual rights.
He hasn’t been afraid to upset the purists, such as on the occasion when he defended pop star Rosalia for her use of flamenco. “The purists are out of date. The truth tells more, making people feel. Some are always criticising, but the important thing is to enjoy music.” His concert is the first for the new season at Palma’s Teatre Principal.
