The eclectic band of music

'Eclèctic' is the title of the Palma Band of Music's second concert for the Winter Cycle series.

The programme features works by lesser-known composers such as the American Alfred Reed. A prolific composer, much of his output was for concert bands. His career included periods as staff composer for both NBC and ABC. The Palma band will be performing Reed's 'A Festive Overture' (1963) and 'Little Concert Suite' (1984).

Also in a festive spirit, this eclectic mix will include 'Music for a Festival' by British composer Philip Sparke, who has specialised in works for brass bands. This particular composition, in three parts and written between 1985 and 1987, has been used as a test piece for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
