The king of Latin pop and global superstar

It’s said that Ricky Martin was key to bringing Latin pop music into the global mainstream.

There is some truth to this, even if he perhaps owed something of a debt to Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine in this regard. What he undoubtedly did do was introduce a hugely infectious dance style that was quite different to how he had started out as a singer mainly of ballads.

Dubbed the king of Latin pop, the high energy of ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ and ‘She Bangs’ made him one of the world’s hottest pop properties. One of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, his awards outstrip many others of whatever style for their sheer number - Billboard, Grammy, MTV, World Music, you name it ... . His acting roles, including that of Antonio D’Amico in ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’, led to him getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
