The music of old American dances

SimfoVents Palma is a music project that has its roots in the Palma Band of Music that was founded in 1966.

The band of music brought up to date, the musicians involved in SimfoVents first performed in 2020, the impetus having come from the town hall’s culture department. Since then, SimfoVents has become synonymous with the ongoing Palma Cultura programme.

The concerts are primarily classical, but they often head off in less conventional musical directions than other ensembles and orchestras. The latest concert is a reflection of this style. Under the title of Popular Suites, it will feature a work by Robert Russell Bennett, who was best known for his Broadway and Hollywood orchestrations. This is the Suite of Old American Dances, five of them - Cake Walk, Schottische, Western One-Step, Wallflower Waltz and Rag. Another work is by Catalan conductor and composer Salvador Brotons - Recull Popular Balear, Op. 77 (Popular Balearic Collection).
