The New Year gospel concert

A gospel concert has become something of a Christmas/New Year ‘classic’ in Palma.

For some years, the Alabama Gospel Choir performed in Palma at this time of the year. A choir comprising twenty artists who captured the history of Gospel through a journey to the roots of this music in spirituals of the nineteenth century and to protest songs and marches for freedom, the Alabama choir last year handed the baton to the Mississippi Gospel Choir.

That choir has returned the compliment, and so the Alabama Gospel Choir is back for this Christmas. Once more with twenty artists, the repertoire includes ‘Oh Happy Day’. The songs, introducing funk and blues elements, convey messages of peace and solidarity, very much in keeping with the sentiments of the season.
