Austrian cellist Julia Hagen began playing the cello at the age of five.

Now 29, she won the prestigious UBS Young Artist Award 2024 and is just at home as a soloist with an orchestra as she is in recital or in chamber arrangements. Her first album was released in 2019; it featured Brahms’ two cello sonatas.

With the Balearic Symphony Orchestra she will be performing the final work of Swiss-born American composer Ernest Bloch’s Jewish Cycle. ‘Schelemo: Rhapsodie Hébraïque for Cello and Orchestra’ was his last composition before moving to the States in 1916 and is considered to have been a piece where he “reached the perfection of his music”.
