The pure jazz of Pol Omedes comes to Palma

Born in Barcelona in 1989, jazz trumpeter Pol Omedes originally studied classical trumpet at the conservatory in his home city.

He moved to Graz in Austria where he took a master’s in jazz trumpet. He has since played with leading musicians in various countries and has released three albums under his own name.

The first of these was ‘Pol Omedes with Strings - Mallorca’, an album that reflected the island’s natural beauty. His most recent album, released in 2021, was the critically acclaimed ‘Pura Vida’ - Pure Life.

Of musicians he has worked with, American jazz trumpeter Jim Rotondi says that he has the inspirations of Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman. As to Pol himself: “He’s a bad cat and he’s playing his ass off. Dig it.”
