The Pollensa-born composer Miquel Capllonch spent some 25 years in Berlin, a period during which he honed his sensitivity for poetry and song and created emotional landscapes through voice and piano.

Last year, soprano Marta Bauzá and pianist Jesús López Blanco released an album of works by Capllonch from his Berlin period. Thirty-three featured on ‘Lo que diu una canço’ (What a Song Says). Titles included ‘Summer Night’, a reflection perhaps of some of his romantic songs about Mallorca. In Germany he embraced both the Romantic and the post-Romantic styles.

He died in Pollensa in 1935 and was named an illustrious son in 1960. His name lives on, among other things, from the church and market square in Puerto Pollensa - Plaça Miquel Capllonch.
