The recital is on Saturday, March 25 in Valldemossa.
Auguste-Joseph Franchomme was at one time the most celebrated cellist of his time.
He died in 1884 and was awarded France’s Légion d’honneur, his vast contribution to nineteenth century music having included collaborations with Frédéric Chopin. These included Franchomme’s rewriting of cello parts for Chopin’s Polonaise, Brillante, Op. 3.
The introduction to this work is part of the programme for a Charterhouse concert featuring two renowned figures in their fields - Japanese-French pianist Akiko Ebi, whose recordings include Chopin, and French cellist and conductor Christophe Coin.
The title of the concert is ‘Chopin et Franchomme: La Voix du Violoncelle’ (the voice of the cello). It will also include Grand Duo Concertant, another collaboration, and Franchomme’s Sérénade Op. 12, cello with piano accompaniment.
