Bellver Castle and Galatzó are once again the venues to enjoy the "The Tears of Sant Llorenç"

On Saturday's 5 and 12 August, Bellver Castle and the Houses of Galatzó will once again be stages to enjoy the Perseids or 'Tears of Sant Llorenç', at the initiative of the Mallorcan Institute of Space Sciences (IMCE), with the support of the town councils of Palma and Calvià.

The IMCE has been organizing this activity since 2016, although it had to be suspended in 2020, due to the limitations established by the health situation. They will be two unique occasions to observe the 'shower of stars', which will not be repeated for another year.

At Bellver, on the 5th, the monitoring of the 'shower of stars' can be carried out until 1.30 in the morning. In addition to being able to use telescopes, four 30-minute activities have been scheduled, in which experts will explain the phenomenon of the Perseids, take a tour of the constellations and make an observation possible with the help of a laser, to different monitors.

Groups have been planned with various timetables, both in Catalan and in Spanish. The first group will be from 9.15pm to 11pm in Catalan and the second group from 11.15pm to 1.30am in Spaniah. Click here for tickets. 

As for the activity at Houses of Galatzó, on the 12th, at the peak of the 'shower of stars', it will also be held in groups, both in Catalan and Spanish. The programme includes a guided tour of the Houses by heritage promoter Tomàs Vibot; and the explanation of the Perseid phenomenon, the exploration of the sky, or 'stargazing' and observation with telescopes, with experts from the Institute. Optionally, attendees can also participate in the course “The summer constellations. Annual and nocturnal location and travel strategies”, which will be given by Lluc Mas, president of the IMCE.

Starts from 7.30pm but you can park from 6.30pm. Last shuttle bus departure at 1.30am.
