A unique night to learn how to observe the Perseid meteor shower with the best conditions at Bellver Castle! | IMCE
The Mallorcan Institute of Space Sciences (IMCE) has organized an event at Bellver Castle once again, on Saturday, August 3rd, to learn how to observe the 'star shower', Perseids, or 'Tears of Sant Llorenç', with the necessary technical conditions to enjoy this astronomical phenomenon that occurs only once a year, in the first half of August.
This activity at Bellver is canceled. The Mallorcan Institute of Space Sciences recommends that all interested persons reserve a spot for the observation activity of the Perseids at the Cases de Galatzó for Friday, August 9th. Click here.
The price is 15 euros for adults, 7 for minors under 18, and free for children under 12, making it an exceptional proposal for families, as children are on vacation, allowing them to share a unique experience with their parents or grandparents.
At Bellver, the activity will start on Saturday, August 3 at 9:30pm, with access from 9.15pm. Groups will be able to participate in either Catalan or Spanish, with four 30-minute sessions each, guided by experts. The sessions will include explanations about the Perseids and constellations, observation of the sky with telescopes, and 'stargazing', an explanation of the celestial space with a laser. Additionally, free observation will be possible until 1.30am.
Since 2016, IMCE has organized this activity annually, which only had to be suspended in 2020 due to restrictions established by the health situation. Spaces are limited, so registration must be made via email at reservas@imce.es or by phone at 971 91 91 66. You can find all the information at IMCE's website.
The Mallorcan Institute of Space Sciences was established in 2016 and currently maintains institutional relationships with the University of the Balearic Islands and the European Space Education Resource Office in Spain (ESERO) – European Space Agency (ESA). It also carries out education and outreach programmes in astronomy. Among its objectives are promoting astronomical and space research and conducting science campaigns for society to disseminate scientific culture and inspire scientific vocations, especially among the youth.
