Real Mallorca are in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, but they aren't one step away from the final as there are two legs.

The first is at home to Real Sociedad, a side who are regularly in the upper reaches of La Liga and who have a slightly better record than Mallorca when it comes to winning the cup - twice as opposed to once.

Their last win was in the 2020/2021 season when they beat Athletic Club (Bilbao) in an all-Basque final.

For Mallorca, who won the 2002/2003 competition, this is their first semi-final since the 2008/2009 season, their place in the semis owing much to attacking intent - unusual under coach Javier Aguirre - against Girona.

Real Sociedad aren't flying as high as Girona in La Liga, so Mallorca have to fancy their chances of making it to the final. Among the Real Sociedad squad are Japan international Take Kubo, who was formerly on loan to Mallorca from Real Madrid, and Scotland international Kieran Tierney, currently on loan from Arsenal.

The second leg in San Sebastian is on February 27.
