This year marks the 30th anniversary of the event around Sa Dragonera in canoe or paddle surf. | MICHELS
The Agrupació Esportiva Voltors-OJE organises the most important non-competitive and non-profit event on the Balearic calendar, which has already been held for 30 years.
The rest of the year, the Agrupació's instructors organise a multitude of canyoning, hiking and caving outings, as well as camping and other outdoor activities. This year they have also focused on mountain safety training and have organised talks by experts in this field.
Registration
As every year, for 'La Vuelta', prior registration is mandatory online at elitechip.net or in person at Piraguas GM, Foracorda or Vol Ras, which includes third party insurance, T-shirt, gifts, drinks and a prize draw for a canoe, a paddle surf paddle, a hydro-cleaner, a tool box and shopping vouchers, and the support of the team of volunteers for safety at sea and many health and rescue professionals. Civil Protection, Local Police, Civil Guard, Maritime Rescue and other entities collaborate in the safety of the event. Also the Andratx Town Hall, as well as several private companies, including Astilleros de Mallorca, which has been co-sponsoring the event uninterruptedly for 25 years.
Safety and security
It will be essential to wear a lifejacket and a bib, correctly worn, as the area is only for the participants of the race. It is also advisable to wear a hat or cap, anti-jellyfish ointment, energy drink, nuts and spare clothes. Remember that each participant is ultimately responsible for his or her own safety, as only he or she knows how to properly assess his or her paddling ability, endurance and balance.
The Tour
The Vuelta a Dragonera is a recreational, non-competitive event that brings together kayaking and paddle surfing enthusiasts, although it should not be forgotten that it is a long, hard course that can take more than three hours of constant paddling. It is not a 'walk' and the sea must always be respected, so everyone must adapt to the sea and their own circumstances.
It is worth mentioning that there is the possibility of a shorter route for those who prefer this option. The short route consists of leaving Sant Elm beach and going directly to the Dragonera harbour, where the refreshment point and the regrouping of participants takes place. From there, everyone returns to the starting beach. If the weather forecast is inadequate on 18th June, the route will be shortened or postponed directly to 2nd July.
