The strike at the Marseille control centre coincided with action by Ryanair cabin crew, which did have an impact on Saturday. Twenty-two Ryanair flights were cancelled, fourteen of these in Palma. There were four cancellations in both Ibiza and Menorca.
A further 51 flights in Palma were delayed - the average delay was 40 minutes. The stoppage in Marseille didn't lead to any cancellations, but it did cause delays and had a knock-on effect on flights over the course of the day.
The situation with Ryanair was despite the fact that the airline had imposed 100% minimum services, a demand that has been denounced by unions. Manuel Lodeiro, spokesperson for the Sitcpla union, says that cabin crew were off because there had not been "reliable communication" to them by letter, as is required, regarding the minimum services.
He added that staff "are following the instructions of the unions in order to avoid abuses by the company", claiming that Ryanair had "tried to bring scab labour from Morocco to operate flights in Spain, such as Malaga-Palma".
Meanwhile, Juan Antonio López of the CCOO union at the Ryanair maintenance hangar in Seville says that Ryanair aircraft maintenance service is being overwhelmed. "Adequate maintenance is not being carried out due to excessive flight operations."
Further Ryanair industrial action has been called for June 30 and July 1 and 2, while the strike in Marseille lasts until 6.30 on Monday morning.

Stan The ManStan it’s the summertime so French air traffic control are on strike. It’s a day with a Y in it so someone in France is on strike. Lived and worked in Saint Nazier it’s France. It seem to be strike season in transport every where at the moment. IAG after having a temporarily salary reduction for British Airways staff ‘the management if you can stretch to that description ‘ want to lock in that rate with a one off payment. This same management who blame Brexit and U.K. government for labour shortages. Nowt to do with the fact they sacked to many people and pocketed the Covid aid package. EasyJet let’s not go there since they ran away from U.K. and headquartered in Switzerland it’s been a shambles certainly in the U.K. and other places I see. Lufthansa labour shortage must Germanyexit then. My neighbours flight going back to Hamburg for a vacation just been cancelled. Ryanair’s Micheal is happy criticising over regulated European economies labour markets in his beloved European Union. As for the events of the past. What the U.K. USA and Canada should learn is to keep out off European politics. It always ends badly. Johnson committing to Sweden, Finland , security . and wider Baltic deployment risks drawing us back in to a Belgian scenario of over a century ago.Just when we thought We where out he drags us back in again. Time for European Union to defend itself. Macron says Nato is brain dead so time to lead big boy. Trump 2 in three years time the republicans will have the house this year. So Nato big dog commitment in doubt. U.K. forces can only operate integrated with USA. So best stand back protected by the grey boats on our insignificant rock. And see European 27 unity in action.
Stan The ManStan the man. This about intensly disliking the French. Many feel the same about Brits and their behaviour abroad. Dragging up the WWII, is really what I dislike, it's like the Brits can't leave it alone. Also do remember it was Americans and other allies who helped the Brits, so it was many who died on all fronts not just Brits. And if you think that the French owe you due to this not striking you are way of the mark. How do you feel visitors feel coming to UK with Rail strike, tube strike, plus all other wanting to strike. What could they blame you for? It's time we are trying to get a long as best as we can, and accusations is not the way.
So, you dislike the French intensely do you, Stan? Would that have anything to do with you being a gammon-faced rabid brexiteer by any chance? Thought as much.
I forgot to say that for year after year in the past the French ATC have had strikes. Their French Authorities and Government promised to resolve their grievances. But as usual they have not resolved anything. I dislike the French intensely. Why did we liberate these people from Hitler control in the second world war.? Tens of thousands died saving France.
Yes of course the Annual French Air Traffic Strike must join in to cause their yearly chaos and problems for travellers. Now who will be next ???.
