Dear Sir, Reckon you got it 100% wrong 'bout the summer sales controversy.
Once Palma's summer sales start they run on till the end of summer, that is, till mid–September.
You suggest in today's Bulletin that this year's idea of starting the ”rebajas” later than in other years was to encourage holidaymakers to flood into Palma and ”fight” in the sales.

The truth is – I understand – quite the opposite: the aim was to prevent summer tourists (as many as possible of them) from being able to shop at the sales' discounted prices.

The authorities made no secret of the fact that they thought holidaymakers should be paying full price for their purchases.
In any case, the plan backfired – as you point out.
