....for Sir Ranulph Fiennes who at the age of 68 is to attempt “the only true polar challenge remaining” -- the first crossing of Antarctica during the polar winter when temperatures are as low as minus 90C (-130 F).

Sir Ranulph, a veteran explorer, will lead a team of six whose members know that during most of the 4'000 km crossing they will be out of reach of rescue if anything goes wrong. The expedition will undertake scientitifc research and also hopes to raise ten million dollars for charity.
