Dear Sir, I have just read your editorial about ‘residencias' and opening hours and couldn't agree more. I am thinking about taking Spanish nationality when my ‘residencia' runs out but am told this process can take up to 3 years! In the meantime I will have to produce that ‘useless piece of paper' which I resent greatly after having had a ‘tarjeta de residencia' for 25 years. With regard to shop opening or rather closing hours, I keep my shop open all day long during the week and half day on Saturdays for the very reason that when others close they can pop into my shop. This is a key point in my advertising campaign and one that many customers have commented on positively. Jackie Hendry Son Caliu
Dear Sir, EVERY resident I have spoken to agrees with your comments on the usefulness of the neat plastic Residencia card (and uselessness of the new paper equivalent ).

This is an opportunity for the Daily Bulletin to be a pioneer in Europe - to change government policy - set up an email / web petition and contact all English language newspapers in Spain to do likewise. I am sure that this would generate overwhelming support for the old style plastic Residencia with photo. A tremendous achievement when the Daily Bulletin creates the news rather than simply recording it.

On a separate issue I was pleased to hear that Andratx council will be restricting development on La Mola - I hope that this means that this once accessible beauty spot - with views over Dragonara - can again be enjoyed by residents and visitors.

On a third issue relating to the destruction by politicians of this island we love - why do we now have a monstrosity of a large mast on the summit of the coastal hill near Santa Ponsa marina? I understood that the development in such coastal areas should not project above the skyline.

Keep up the excellent challenging journalism. My best wishes, Geoff Williamson
