Full marks to the Calvia council who are trying to tackle the problem of street prostitution and outrageous behaviour by tourists across the municipality. For years now I don´t think anyone could really understand why street prostitution was becoming such a problem in Magalluf. I, along with many others, thought that the police could deal with it. However, it appears that there is a legal loophole which means that the police force can´t tackle the problem unless there is a change in the law. Calvia Mayor Manu Onieva is calling for new legislation from the Ministry of Justice which would outlaw this practice and give the police the necessary powers to deal with it. This is certainly good news and the move will be welcomed by all in the Magalluf area. Also, we could see an end to some of the yobbish behaviour which has given Magalluf a bad name. The Calvia council, with the full support of local hoteliers, are planning to introduce a code of conduct. The word from the Calvia council is that some behaviour will no longer be tolerated and full marks to them. The council is showing that it is listening to residents and they can´t be accused of trying to turn a blind eye to some of the problems in Calvia. If the law against prostitution does not progress then it will not be the fault of the council but the Ministry of Justice. The code of conduct will not be followed by all but at least the council are trying to tackle the problem. So full marks to them.
