Is “the fire fighter”, a figure symbolic of all those brave front line fighters -- on the ground and in the air -- who led the ultimately successful battle to contain and control last week's wildfire across south-west Majorca. Given that as much as 2'000 hectares of land was destroyed and much more threatened on our small island, the fire took on the relative proportion of those often seen sweeping across Australia's and America's open spaces.

Behind the front line must also have been a team of emergency experts directing the strategy as well as hundreds of those support services and volunteers that come into action when needed. Thanks to them all. And admiration.
