By Jason Moore IF you´ve got a problem, blame the immigrants. This appears to be the policy of many European governments at the moment. In Spain immigration policy is a complete mess. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants, mostly from South America, were invited to Spain to work. Their paperwork was quickly handled and the majority found work. Now, that times are hard the Spanish government is inviting those who haven´t got a job to go home. Thanks. How kind. Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition Mariano Rajoy was claiming that Spaniards were having to look abroad for employment because immigrants had taken their jobs. Are these the same Spaniards who kindly declined to do some jobs and as a direct result the government had to open their doors to workers from other countries. Spanish unemployment has always been high and even at the height of the boom, there were still more than a million unemployed. In the Balearics alone there are more than 50'000 people from non-European Union countries on the workforce doing vital jobs and keeping the local economy on track. It is time that immigrant workers got the credit they deserve. In most cases they keep Europe going by doing some key jobs vital for the economy.
