ALL is not well in the Spanish football league. On the surface it all appears well, you have the two best teams on the planet with some of the best players in the world. But if you scratch away the surface you will find that many of the other First Division Clubs, including our very own Real Mallorca, are suffering badly. Many have huge debts and to make matters worse the two big teams in the league, Barcelona and Real Madrid, take almost half of the money from TV rights. Barcelona earnt an estimated 180 million euros from TV rights last season with Madrid taking a similar figure. This left just 300 million euros for the rest of the teams. The whole situation is not exactly fair and additional TV money would help many clubs resolve their pressing financial problems.

The Spanish league has become a two horse race between the big two but more TV cash could spark a revolution which could see other teams challenging for silverware. The other Spanish league clubs have launched a legal challenge against the TV money issue, arguing that it is not exactly fair. Real Madrid and Barcelona could be slightly more democratic and help their poorer counterparts by giving away part of their TV jackpot. But Real Madrid and Barcelona have their own problems with their wage bill alone taking an enormous slice of their budget. For the sake of Real Mallorca and other clubs I just hope that justice is done and an accord is reached soon.
