During a packed week, President Barack Obama: made a wide-ranging speech to the UN General Assembly, chaired a meeting of the UN Security Council, brought prime minister Netanyahu and president Abbas together to encourage them to make progress on the Israeli-Palestinan peace talks; and chaired the G20 economic summit in Pittsburgh.

At the end of the week came news of a previously undisclosed Iranian nuclear facility which led the United States, Britain and France jointly to denounce the deception and threaten further sanctions if Iran failed to co-operate.
