NOT a day goes by at the moment without the Bulletin being informed about another “travel nightmare”. This week there were many horror stories after a strike by French air traffic control caused havoc across Europe.

It led to some British airlines cancelling scores of flights leaving passengers stranded. It was the same story with the volcanic ash fiasco earlier this year. Through no fault of their own passengers find their flight cancelled and and they are unable to find another one and are therefore left stranded. This is what happened to a British family this week; they were due to fly back on Thursday but were unable to do so as a result of the French strike.

The next available flight was on Wednesday almost six days later. With spending money gone and no hotel the family were facing a nightmare scenario. Unfortunately, this state of affairs is happening too often and it just made me think that the very adequate European law which exists to protect travellers is not being enforced. It is a great shame that holidays are spoilt in this way and I would urge the airlines to be slightly more understanding. Catching a plane seems to get more stressful everyday. Holiday nightmare? I think I have seen this headline far too much this summer in Majorca.
