DEAR SIR

WHO are these people running such organisations as The Palmanova-Magalluf Hoteliers Association? And just how out of touch are they?
Juan Espina, a spokesman for the said organisation is confident that the forthcoming strike “won't hit tourists”. How can it NOT hit tourists - particularly if only 50% of continental air traffic is operating? Espina says that a “significant number” will still be able to travel. In my book, that also means a “significant number” won't be able to travel. And that means tourists will be hit by the strike contrary to what Juan Espina says but who am I to comment, after all, he is one of those guys holding responsible tourism post on this island (probably for not much longer the way things are going). I am a mere resident who has had to sit and watch our tourist trade go down the pan for the last 10 years.

DEAR SIR

AT the end of an evening in a restaurant on the seafront in Puerto Pollenca, our friend who had just arrived on the island that afternoon fell and banged the front of her head on the road.

She was in shock and bleeding from her nose. The restaurant called 112 and the police arrived. They recommended we take her to PAC in Pollenca, the 24hr accident centre. When she was well enough to stand and no longer felt dizzy we got her into our car and drove to Pollenca and the PAC centre. It was now 1.00am and she badly needed treatment. We were admitted to the building but the on call doctor refused to treat her as her E111 card was at her apartment in the Port. I said we could bring it the next morning but this was refused and so a woman with a badly bruised face and cut nose and knees, who possibly had concussion was turned away in the middle of the night by the health system in Pollenca. There was no humanity in this little story; we love the area and live here 5 months each year, but how do we justify the warmth and hospitality of most Majorcans to our friend when in her moment of need help was refused. In Krakow when I was injured 3 years ago and taken to a very decrepid accident centre, I received instant first class treatment before my E111 card was presented.

Thankfully the lady in question is on the way to recovery no thanks to PAC in Pollenca
