... for Ijaz Butt, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board who only reluctantly withdrew accusations he had made of English cricketers being involved in match- fixing in the Test Match against Pakistan at the Oval on 17 September. The English Cricket Board had threatened Butt with legal action if he did not withdraw his accusations; he did so last Wednesday in a statement which claimed that there had been a misunderstanding arising from my comments. He said he had never intended to question the behaviour and integrity of any English player.
