Dear Sir,

I WOULD like to comment on today's headline re-Thomas Cook (Tuesday 6 October).
I agree with many Fontenla-Novoa comments and urge the government to step up and control the massive rise in electricity, diverse tax, iva (VAT), refuse collection etc.

Here in Calvia the cost of running a business just goes up and up. This has to be passed on to the customer to some degree, however the majority of small businesses have had to absorb these costs this year.

Greedy landlords do not charge less in the winter months when there is no tourist trade. The people have to make their income last for 12 months, when they can only find employment for less than 6. This is not enough to claim paro, hardly enough to survive the winter on. Again greedy landlords don't put the rent down in winter when there is no work. They are there however, cap in hand to putting rent and community charges, up once the inflation rate has been set.

All inclusive will kill this Island, if the infra structure is not supported it will disappear, the knock on effect is obvious. Will the last business to leave Calvia please turn the lights off.
