Dear Sir,
YET again, Ray Fleming uses intemperate language in his column denouncing Condoleeza Rice, accusing her of “handwringing” and other “crimes” during her visit to Palestinian Premier Abbas in refusing to acknowledge the elected Hamas led Government or negotiate with it.

Does it not occur to him that it is the Hamas movement that refuses to recognise Israel or its right to exist that is the cause of all or most of the impasse that prevents meaningful discussion.

It is not, as Mr Fleming implies merely “the hostility” of Hamas towards Israel, but as I have pointed out, it is the TOTAL opposition to Israel that inhibits any sort of movement towards a settlement.

This is also the reason for the failure of the European Union to deal with Hamas, and until that organisation drops its absurd stance they will get,and deserve nothing.

Dear Sir,
THE PLIGHT OF HORSES IN PALMA

WE have had a holiday home on the Island for teh past five years. One of our great pleasuers and our regular visits is into Palma.

A lovely city, friendly local people, very nice shops and restaurants. But nevertheless, we always come away feeling dismayed that the plight of the horses that pull the tourist carrieages does not seem to improve. (Letter in last Friday's Bulletin.)

Focused on this again, is there no official body who can deal with this. It is not a good advertisement for Majorcan tourism.

Surely these animals should het basic things like water and shade when they are resting. It does not make sense.
