...to the government of Tanzania which plans to build a highway through the grass plains of the Serengeti which will cut across the track of the two million wildebeest and other animals which stampede across this area for three months in their annual migration to new grazing. The Serengeti National Park is a World Heritage Site and the stampede is one of its principal attractions.The government has said the road will be of gravel but cannot explain how the traffic will be controlled to avoid the animals.
