Dear Sir,
For the umpteenth time recently, the Bulletin has printed articles, columns, editorials, regarding Tourism, high season, low season, it matters not, for we have heard all the arguments for and against, many, many times. Indeed, I have weighed in myself on this subject, interminably.
Today’s headlines and editorial, which regaled us with the startling fact, that the Balearic government have reduced the amount of expenses devoted to tourism, by 50 per cent, reputedly because of cuts imposed by Madrid. Even if true, it does not seem to have made any difference to the numbers of visitors, quite the reverse, as, by all accounts, it has been a record season!
So, as I intimated above, may we have a moratorium on stories that dwell on tourism, and while we are on boring and repeating discussions on all-inclusives, lettings, hoteliers, car hire, bars and restaurants (except food and drink!) I am aware, of course, of the great importance of Tourism , the life-blood of Majorca, but is it necessary to have a transfusion, quite so often? I just hope it does not lead to a Post-Mortem!
Yours Sincerely,
Phil Green, El Toro
